Hays police arrest standoff suspects from Wichita

HAYS, Kansas – Hays police arrested two from Wichita after a standoff Monday morning in the 2100 block of Lincoln Draw in Hays.

Officers were following up on a reported carjacking that had occurred in Wichita.

They arrested 31-year-old Crystal R. McKinney for felony obstruction, obstruction, and driving while revoked.

Officers set up a perimeter around the area and tried to call out 32-year-old Michael E. Novak from Wichita.

Novak was wanted in connection with the carjacking and a $100,000 bond felony arrest warrant out of Sedgwick County.

The Special Situation Response Team was called to the scene to assist.

At 9:37 a.m. the team made entry into the house and found Novak hiding in an upstairs bedroom.

Novak was arrested for the felony warrant and felony obstruction.

Both McKinney and Novak are being held in the Ellis County Jail.
