WICHITA, Kansas – Sedgwick County and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office have entered into a settlement with the family of Edgar Richard, Jr.

The amount of the settlement is $300,000.  The lawsuit was seeking damages in the amount of $4.5 million.

The case has been pending since late 2009 and concerns events that occurred in early 2008.

Richard suffered a broken jaw and brain injuries as a result of a physical response by Manuel Diaz.

Diaz pled guilty to the crime back in 2009 and received 18 months probation.

He was terminated by the Sheriff’s Office.

The case was about to lead to a lengthy jury trial, and the settlement is not admission of liability.
