Friends University’s Mitchell named NAIA All-Star

WICHITA, Kansas — After leading the nation in scoring for the season, Friends University guard Joe Mitchell has been named to the NAIA Division II All-Star team.

Mitchell joins nine other players from across the nation. The team includes players from seven different conferences and ten schools.

Mitchell represents the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference on the All-Star team along with Bethany College’s Idris Ibn Idris, the nation’s second leading scorer.

With the impressive numbers Mitchell put up this year, he broke the KCAC single season scoring record. His per game averages on the season were 32.7 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 steals.

Mitchell led the Falcons to the 2014 KCAC regular season title with an overall 25-6 record. They are currently ranked 20th in the national coaches poll and will play their first round game of the national championship tournament Thursday, March 13, 2014. Their first round match-up will be against Northwood University (Fla.) who enters the tournament with a 26-6 record.
