Police arrest suspect in Winfield stabbing

WINFIELD, Kansas – Winfield police are investigating a stabbing.

It happened Monday morning around 2 a.m.

Police responded to William Newton Hospital after 44-year-old Richard L. Phillips arrived with several stab wounds.

He was quickly taken into surgery.

Officers gathered information from witnesses and responded to a home in the 700 Block of East 8th Ave. in Winfield.

The home was secured and detained for a search warrant.

Michael Allen Wedd, 22, of Winfield, was arrested and booked into the Cowley County Jail for attempted second-degree murder.

The Winfield Police Department and Kansas Bureau of Investigation are still investigating.
