WICHITA, Kansas – Construction of a new storm sewer drainage system will close Meridian beginning Thursday, March 6, for three weeks.

Through traffic will detour to Southwest Boulevard at Harry and Pawnee streets.

Local traffic on Meridian will be open to Esthner and May streets for access to residential areas.

Access to area businesses will be maintained.

Orient street will close at Meridian until completion of the project.

The project is providing drainage improvements for Meridian Avenue from Pawnee to McCormick Street.

The construction will also allow future improvements to be made between Meridian and the Arkansas River.

The $6.5 million project began in May 2013 with the target completion date for the entire project in spring 2014. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
