Police locate several stuck in Big Ditch

WICHITA, Kansas – The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department along with Wichita police located a woman and three children that were reported to be stuck in the Big Ditch Tuesday morning.

Deputies were told that a Wichita man had been driving a truck in the big ditch and got it stuck.

At approximately 7 p.m. Monday, he called a woman to drive to the canoe launch near 3100 E. 71st Street South and pick him up.

At 11 p.m. the woman had not been heard from and she was reported to have a 4-year-old a 2-year-old and a 10-month-old with her.

The sheriff’s office deployed an all-terrain vehicle and began driving the big ditch in an attempt to locate the missing persons.

Deputies did locate the truck and at approximately 4:45 a.m. Tuesday.

Sheriff’s deputies, using the ATV, were able to drive the woman and children out of the big ditch.

Investigators are looking into possible trespassing or child endangerment charges.
