Preview: No. 2 Wichita State at Bradley

Wichita State could make even more history tonight and be the first team to ever be 30-0 while still in the regular season. Other teams have surpassed 30 wins without losing but it has never been done before entering the postseason.

Standing in front of the Shockers tonight is Bradley University. The Braves have had a less than mediocre season and currently sit with a 12-17 overall record and 7-9 MVC record. When the Shockers beat the Braves January 14 it was a route from start to finish and ended with the Shockers having a 22 point victory.

The Missouri Valley regular season title already belongs to the Shockers and they cut down the nets Saturday after beating Drake 83-54 at home.

“It means a lot, it really does,” sophomore point guard Fred VanVleet said. “It’s something we didn’t do last year. It’s special, and we appreciate it. But, at the same time, we have more goals ahead of us.”

Two games are all that is left now before postseason tournaments begin and the Shockers really pursue that goal of returning to the Final Four.

VanVleet has been on fire lately but will look to lead his team tonight on his 20th birthday. In the last three games, he has averaged an impressive stat line of 18.3 points, 6.7 assists and 5.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals. February 19 at Loyola of Chicago, VanVleet also had perfect shooting on the night and went 6 of 6 from the field and 10 of 10 from the free throw line.

The Braves will have their hands full tonight despite playing at home where they are 11-5. They only average 63.8 points per game as compared to the Shockers 75.8. Senior guard Walt Lemon Jr. is the key for Bradley as he averages 17.7 points per game on the season, putting him at third in the Missouri Valley.

Despite not beating the Shockers since February 24, 2010, the Braves own the all-time series record against the Shockers 71-63.

The game is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. Central Time.
