WICHITA, Kansas — The Newman men’s basketball team will play in front of a national television audience on the CBS Sports Network on Feb. 22, 2014. The featured game will be in Wichita against Dallas Baptist at 11:05 a.m. as part of the NCAA Division II Men’s Basketball Game of the Week schedule.
The Jets’ athletic department has said that admission for the game is free and those who attend will be given a free t-shirt for the white-out and rally towel. Prizes will be given throughout the game for best costume, face painting and poster and games will be played during all timeouts and breaks. South Central Sealing and Paving has even sponsored a $500 cash prize for a half-court shot contest at halftime.
The event begins at 9 a.m. with a free breakfast and is followed by a pep rally and the team’s entrance at 10 a.m. Both will be held in the Gorges Atrium.
“It’s a tremendous honor and great opportunity for Newman University, our students, faculty and staff to host one of five NCAA Division II nationally televised men’s basketball games this season,” Newman Athletic Director Vic Trilli said. “Newman University will have an opportunity to showcase our campus, our mission and our campus spirit and pride on national television. We will work extremely hard to make this event a huge showcase for Newman University and the Heartland Conference.”
