WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita police say two children are in protective custody after a baby was found face down in a bath tub.

It happened Thursday at about 3 p.m.

The mother had left the bathroom, and when she returned, she found her 8-month-old daughter face down in the tub.

She drove the baby to Via Christ St. Joseph on East Harry where the baby is in critical condition.

“When officers arrived and checked the welfare, they determined the situation warranted that the children were taken into police custody,” said Lt. Doug Nolte, Wichita Police Department.

The Exploited and Missing Child Unit is now handling the case.

No arrests were made.

The baby’s older brother was also placed into protective police custody. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
