WICHITA, Kansas – Wichita will have no school on Thursday, February 6 due to dangerous weather conditions.

The district says the decision was made with student safety in mind, and was based on three factors: sidewalks and roads remain snow-packed, significant delays in some bus runs, and temperatures that are dangerously low.

“The buses are going to be late because the sideroads are still snowpacked and that is obviously going to delay pickups for students and that’s going to delay us all morning long or all afternoon long, that’s definitely one of the things we have to consider,” said Susan Arensman, Wichita Public Schools.

Parent-teacher conferences, magnet school visitations and athletic practices and competitions will be rescheduled, and updated schedules will be posted on district and school web sites as soon as information becomes available.

All non-attendance centers (SSC, ISC, AMAC and IST) will be open for business.

Specific employee report information below:

  • 9 a.m. report time: All AMAC, IST and ISC employees, as well as all building principals and assistant principals.
  • Regular report time: All custodians (including those based at schools) and all employees based at the SSC, or who are members of departments based at SSC.
  • Schedule as assigned: snow removal crews

Additional weather updates concerning the status of school on Thursday will be posted on the district’s Web site – www.usd259.org and on Facebook and Twitter.
