Shocker fans brave the cold to watch the big game

WICHITA, Kansas — Despite the huge game for the Shockers, crowds didn’t seem to be flocking downtown early tonight.

KSN’s Brian Miller was downtown before tip-off but didn’t see the crowd he expected.

However, in East Wichita at Fox and Hound, management was expecting a huge turnout for the alumni watch party and also just because it’s the Shockers on TV.

“It’s a good day, but Wednesday with a Shocker team, great day!” said Sean McLachlan, the general manager at the Fox and Hound.

The cold didn’t hold fans back for long and many local bars bounced back from suffering through some slow nights recently with the winter weather.

After tip off, fans dressed in their black and yellow packed establishments to will the Shockers to their 24th straight victory.

It doesn’t matter how cold and snowy it is in Wichita, the Shockers are a hot commodity.

“I’ve been waiting 21 years for this and it’s amazing,” said Shocker fan Brandon James. “I hope it’s a heck of a run and they keep on doing well.”

While crowds can still be hit or miss, bar managers agree the Shockers incredible run has been good for businesses, especially those looking to recover from a lull during the Wichita Whiteout.

The Shockers did win in semi-dramatic fashion so the run is still alive and no one is complaining.
