WICHITA, Kansas — With school being closed for so many days in a row, KSN looked into what parents are able to do to keep their kids occupied all day long.
Playing in the snow, movies and staying inside are how Emily, a local girl, has enjoyed her snow days so far. Her father on the other hand may have a different idea of the days off.
“By the third day, by tomorrow, I’ll be absolutely insane,” said Casey Crowell.
Cabin fever is what Crowell blames it on and that is the challenge for many parents in Wichita.
For the parents who stayed home, there are ways to entertain the little ones but many parents aren’t so lucky to get snow days along with their kids. That may be how places with childcare like the YMCA are seeing more foot traffic, giving families ways to stay active together.
“Snow days are a very busy time for us,” said Barry Davis from the Northwest Wichita YMCA. “It’s an opportunity, sometimes you just need to get out of the house after being cooped up for a few days and the YMCA has a lot of neat options.”
For many parents, they say they appreciate the opportunity of a snow day to spend more time with their kids.
“These days, they can be a nice little break, unexpected,” said Crowell. “Mother nature’s gift to us.”
All-Star Sports actually did have a winter storm special for families here tonight and even into the evening hours parents were still taking advantage and it will be open again tomorrow.
