SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) — It doesn’t matter whether a former western Pennsylvania county jail inmate had a boil or a spider bite, his injuries — and allegations that he wasn’t given proper medical treatment — aren’t worth $50 million.
The (Somerset) Daily American (http://bit.ly/1dqkvJs ) says a 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel has refused to reverse a federal judge’s decision to dismiss Ronald Sever’s lawsuit against the Somerset County Jail.
The 50-year-old claimed he suffered fever and terrible pain from a spider bite while an inmate in April 2010, before he was transferred to a Virginia lockup on charges in that state.
U.S. Magistrate Keith Pesto recommended the case be thrown out last year, noting Sever was properly treated for a boil while in jail — but that even if it was a spider bite, it resolved quickly with minimal care.
