AAA Executive Vice President, James R. Hanni, released a recap of the two day storm, detailing the amount of calls received.
As of 8:30 p.m., they had received a total of 557 calls for service today alone. Combined with yesterday the total for this storm was right at 850 calls for assistance.
Topeka accounted for 157 of today’s calls and Wichita had 149. Lawrence also had 49 calls.
Outside of those main three communities, 202 calls for roadside assistance also came from around the state.
About 30-35 percent of the calls today involved vehicles stuck in the snow requiring extrication. Another 30 percent needed towing. The cold weather contributed to another 30 percent of callers needing a jump start to get going. The remaining percentage of calls were for frozen locks or lockouts, tire changes and fuel delivery.
The call volume this winter is up 9 percent over last winter-to-date.
