WICHITA, Kansas – AAA Kansas has responded to 173 calls since 6 a.m. this morning.

AAA has answered 43 calls in Topeka, 42 in Wichita and 25 in the Lawrence area, and 63 calls elsewhere in Kansas.

Nearly 40 percent of all the calls are for winch-outs, in situations where cars have skidded off the roadway and into snow drifts or stuck in high snow.

AAA says man motorists have heeded the warnings and stayed off the roads.

AAA expects increasing volumes of calls through the afternoon.
