WICHITA, Kansas – The Wichita school district will not have school Tuesday.

The district announced it was canceling classes Monday afternoon.

In addition, the All-City Orchestra dress rehearsal and concert scheduled for Tuesday evening – as well as all athletic events – will be rescheduled.

USD 259 officials say they try to make a decision the night before a storm whenever the forecasted conditions stay the same.

But the district also takes more than just the weather into account.

“What other challenges do we have with school meal service and transportation? Can we get the buses started? Will we be able to get fuel to the bus lots, etc,” said Darren Muci, Operation Division Director, USD 259.

Wichita schools cancelled classes four times in February last year.

Officials will be monitoring conditions throughout the day Tuesday, and additional information on the status of school Wednesday will be posted on the district’s Web site – www.usd259.org – and on our Facebook and Twitter sites.
