Wichita State will host Evansville and have a chance to redeem themselves from being swept last year at the hands of the Purple Aces.
A win would put the No. 4 Shockers win total at 23 and potentially move them up another spot in the rankings if the No. 2 Syracuse Orangemen were to the fall against No. 17 Duke, a heavily anticipated matchup on Saturday.
Last game the Shockers underachieved after a dominating first half and they let Loyola University of Chicago come back from 21 points down to get within single digits with just over two minutes remaining. The 57 points that Wichita State finished with was their lowest total this season.
Evansville is coming into tomorrow night’s game after a loss against Northern Iowa on Wednesday. The Purple Aces started the season with five straight wins but is now 10-12 overall and 3-6 in the MVC.
Despite the mediocre record, Evansville poses a threat to the Shockers with their sophomore guard D.J. Balentine. During the loss to UNI Wednesday, Balentine went off for 43 points and improved his average to 23.0 points per game this season.
Wichita State will look to keep their own weapon, senior Cleanthony Early, hot from the field as he has scored 23, 19 and 23 points in the last three games respectively.
Along with attempting to fuel Early’s offensive surge, the Shockers will focus on defense as they are only allowing 59.2 points per game which is 10th in the nation.
The game is scheduled to tip-off at 2:00 p.m. Central Time.
