WICHITA, Kansas – The city of Wichita Public Works had crews out pretreating the roads the middle part of this week trying to stay ahead of the storm.

They had trucks laying down brine.

Crews have also dusted troublesome areas like bridges and overpasses with a salt sand mix.

KSN wanted to know how much of the city’s supplies have been used by the recent storms.

Right now, the city has about half of its sand salt mixture.

That’s more than enough to get us through the messy conditions this weekend and into next week.

“We’re not in a bad situation right now. We’re in a reasonably good situation for the forecast looking forward for the next week,” said Joe Pajor, Wichita Public Works Department.

Pajor says they will be monitoring the weather and conditions closely continuing to keep crews on 12-hour shifts as necessary so that the roads are continually treated. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
