HOUSTON, Texas (NBC News) – The intense cold that has gripped much of the nation for the past few days is pushing south.

Freezing temperatures, sleet and snow snarled traffic and prompted flight cancellations across southeast Texas Friday morning.

The Houston Airport System says more than 60 flights have been canceled at Bush Intercontinental Airport through 10 a.m. That number is about 50 percent of the flights.
