Kay Yow Cancer Fund donates $100,000 to Vanderbilt

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The NCAA women’s Final Four is coming to Nashville in April, so the Kay Yow Cancer Fund has made its annual donation to a cancer group in the host city with the latest gift going to the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center.

Sue Donohoe, executive director of the Kay Yow fund, presented a check Tuesday morning on behalf of the fund and partnered with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association and the V Foundation for Cancer Research to Vanderbilt doctors Dineo Khabele and Lawrence Marnett.

The researchers are studying how to image ovarian cancer using small molecule radiotracers.

Donohoe says it’s remarkable the collaboration on the project with the type of teamwork Yow would have wanted. The Kay Yow Fund now has donated $600,000 since the first grant in 2009.
