Former Hutchinson Salthawk football player Nate Dreiling played in the national East-West collegiate Shrine Bowl game Saturday.

Dreiling spent his collegiate career playing at Pittsburgh State and was a four-time All-American at linebacker. In 2011, he was named the Division II defensive player of the year. His storied career also made its way into the record books as he finished his four years with a tackle total of 491. That stat leaves Dreiling as third all-time in Division II history.

Dreiling graduated from Hutchinson High School in 2009.

The game was invite only and gave the Hutchinson native a chance to showcase his talent against other players of both Division II, FCS and FBS schools that are hopeful of an NFL career. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
