WIU offers online program for nurses seeking BSNs

MACOMB, Ill. (AP) — Western Illinois University in Macomb is converting its program for nurses who want a bachelor’s degree to an all-online format.

The program is designed for working nurses with associates degrees or diplomas in nursing who want to advance their professional options by getting a baccalaureate degree.

Nursing program Director Lea Monahan says the change will better fit the schedules of nurses who want to further their education while still working. The online program will be available starting with the fall 2014 semester.

The university’s nursing program began in 2008 with the first students graduating in December 2010. The program offers students a four-year program that moves from pre-nursing to a pre-licensure bachelor’s degree in nursing.
