Accused police shooter’s girlfriend in court

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The girlfriend of a man accused of killing a Draper police officer has been ordered to complete a drug treatment program.

The 34-year-old Traci Vaillancourt is charged with obstruction of justice. Her boyfriend, 34-year-old Timothy Walker, is charged with murder. Prosecutors say that after shooting Draper police Sgt. Derek Johnson on Sept. 1, Walker shot Vaillancourt, and then shot himself in the jaw.

The Salt Lake Tribune reports (http://bit.ly/L1k7KQ ) that Vaillancourt thanked the judge for sending her to the treatment program during court Tuesday.

Vaillancourt was shot in the back by Walker and is considered a victim. But prosecutors charged her because they say she gave misleading statements about what happened. She has recovered and is now walking on her own.

Walker is due back in court in February.
