State Oks modified expansion for Soldotna hospital

KENAI, Alaska (AP) — The state of Alaska has approved a modified expansion plan for Central Peninsula Hospital in Soldotna.

The Peninsula Clarion reports ( the state health department last week approved the hospital’s certificate of need.

This allows the hospital to move forward with a nearly $40 million expansion.

Hospital officials needed the certificate to seek approval for its revenue bond application. The process was completed Thursday by the Alaska Municipal Bond Bank.

The expansion includes an oncology area, specialty clinics for pain management, neurology and general surgery, physical rehabilitation space and other services.

The state previously denied the hospital’s plans to build two additional endoscopy clinics and expand the hospital’s imaging capacity with MRI, PET and CT scans.
