Nevada city balks at accepting pot dispensaries

HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — Henderson is going to wait to begin accepting applications for any of the 40 medical marijuana businesses the state has authorized in Clark County.

The City Council in Nevada’s second-largest municipality approved a six-month moratorium Tuesday on land use, business license or building permit applications for legal pot dispensaries.

The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1lPEJBa ) that city officials sought time to review policy and legal implications of approving the permits.

Nevada voters approved a statewide constitutional amendment in 2000 allowing medicinal pot use.

But patients were left with no way to legally obtain marijuana until the state Legislature last year authorized taxing, regulating and distributing pot through dispensaries around the state.

At the state level, officials Wednesday said they will meet an April 1 legislative deadline to adopt regulations.
