Va. health facilities take steps reduce flu spread

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — More than two dozen health care facilities in Hampton Roads are asking visitors wear surgical masks to reduce the spread of the flu.

Media outlets report that the policy is effective Tuesday for 26 hospitals, free-standing emergency rooms, health clinics, doctors’ offices and urgent care centers.

Surgical masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the facilities’ entrances.

The Virginia Department of Health has reported that flu activity was widespread during the third week of December.
