S. Illinois man dies after removing snow

ALTON, Ill. (AP) — Authorities say a southern Illinois man died of a heart attack that he suffered while using a snow blower at his home.

Madison County Coroner Stephen Nonn said 66-year-old Carl W. Walker of Alton died at 9:51 a.m. Thursday at a local hospital.

Nonn said Walker complained to his wife after using the snow blower, saying he was having trouble breathing. Walker went to the hospital but died after suffering what doctors said was a heart attack.

Several inches of snow fell in the Alton area.

Nonn said people with plans to shovel or blow snow away should check with doctors to make sure they’re healthy enough to do so.
