RIC to offer master’s in nurse anesthesiology

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — Rhode Island College is adding a master’s program in nurse anesthesiology.

The 30-month master of science program is being offered by the college’s School of Nursing and St. Joseph Hospital School of Nurse Anesthesia. The program begins next summer. Up to 10 students will be admitted each year.

Students will mainly be based on the RIC campus for the program’s first two semesters. They’ll do clinical rotations at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in Providence, home to the School of Nurse Anesthesia since 1962.

Applications are due Feb. 15.

Certified nurse anesthesiologists are registered nurses with at least two years of extensive training in the specialty. They can administer anesthesia in Rhode Island along with medical doctors in any setting in which anesthesia is delivered.
