Illinois boy’s picture being added to parade float

WHITE HEATH, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois boy who died in 2000 is one of dozens of organ donors being remembered on a float in the New Year’s Day Tournament of Roses Parade.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/19nnWWh ) a picture of Teddy Deterding is one of 81 images of organ donors that will be on the Donate Life float.

The annual parade is held in Pasadena, Calif.

The picture of the 11-year-old from White Heath in Piatt County is being made with flowers, seeds and spices. The floragraph represents Illinois-based Gift of Hope, an organ and tissue donation network.

Deterding died after a car wreck and his family decided to donate his organs.

Nine of his family members will head to California to help work on the float and watch the parade.
