State veterinarian named ‘Vet of the Year’ in RI

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The state’s chief veterinarian has been named “Veterinarian of the Year” in Rhode Island.

Scott Marshall of the state Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Agriculture received the award last week at the Rhode Island Veterinary Medical Association’s annual meeting held in Newport.

He was the unanimous choice of the association’s board when it voted in October.

Outgoing Association President Honorata Lenk called Marshall “unfailingly helpful and resourceful” and said his office been proactive in alerting the public to health risks and concerns relating to animal welfare. She said he’s held in high regard by his colleagues because he’s knowledgeable and brings a “can-do” spirit to his work. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
