Detroit transfers vital records services to county

DETROIT (AP) — The city of Detroit’s Vital Records Division is permanently closing as operations are transferred to the Wayne County Clerk’s office.

The closing happens Friday afternoon. People won’t be able to get birth and death certificates through the city from Monday through Jan. 13.

They’ll be available again starting Jan. 14 at 640 Temple St. in Detroit.

Funeral directors may file and obtain death certificates at the county clerk’s office in the Coleman A. Young Municipal Center.

Birth and death certificates also will be available through the State of Michigan Vital Records Office.
