Affiliation proposed for 2 Michigan health systems

ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A proposal would make Allegiance Health a part of the University of Michigan Health System.

The affiliation agreement, if approved, aims to find ways for Ann Arbor-based University of Michigan Health System to work with Allegiance Health, which serves the Jackson area.

As part of the plans, University of Michigan Health System would commit to $100 million in “new strategic initiatives investment” at Allegiance Health over the next seven years. On Tuesday they announced that they had signed a letter of intent.

The affiliation would expand on existing collaborations between the health systems. Allegiance Health and University of Michigan Health System, for example, already work together to provide radiation oncology services to cancer patients and heart care.

Full details are to be announced in the coming months.
