INDIANAPOLIS — Secretary of State Connie Lawson is set to announce this morning how the money from a legal settlement with Indiana’s largest teachers union will be distributed. The Indiana State Teachers Association and National Education Association agreed in August to pay $14 million to school districts which had enrolled in the union’s now-defunct health insurance plan. INDIANAPOLIS — Supporters of ending Indiana’s longtime ban on Sunday retail alcohol sales are hoping a change in the Legislature has improved their chances. That change is the appointment of Republican Rep. Tom Dermody of LaPorte as chairman of the House Public Policy Committee after the resignation of the previous chairman who refused to bring a bill ending the ban up for a vote. SENT: 120 words. FARMERSBURG — A small town in southwestern Indiana will see both its high school and elementary school shut down. The Northeast Sullivan School Board voted 3-2 to close the 172-student Union Junior-Senior High School in the town of Dugger. The district will also close Dugger Elementary. SENT: 120 words.
