PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The state’s new health insurance marketplace is reminding Rhode Islanders of the upcoming deadline for enrolling in an insurance plan for coverage to start in January.
The Dec. 23 deadline for enrolling through HealthSource RI reflects a one-week extension by the federal government. The marketplace is offering a total of 12 individual plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Rhode Island and Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island.
Most Americans will be required to have health insurance as of Jan. 1 under the federal Affordable Care Act. For coverage to begin then, individuals and families must select a plan and pay the first month’s premium.
HealthSource RI says it will launch an ad campaign to get the word out about the new deadline.
