ND woman hopes to set record organ donor sign-up

FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota woman hopes to set a Guinness world record for signing up organ donors.

The Grand Forks Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1fLUYy6 ) that Monica Kersting of West Fargo is leading the “Give to Live” drive to sign up more than 4,135 people as organ donors in North Dakota in eight hours.

She and her husband, Loren, also founded Alexa’s Hope, an organization dedicated to ending the need for waiting lists for organ transplants. They say a mass organ donor sign-up on Nov. 23 in Fargo will help that effort.

Alexa’s Hope is named after the Kersting’s daughter, Alexa, who died in 2004 at the age of 14 while awaiting a double-lung transplant.
