Jail running short of tuberculosis serum

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A national shortage of a skin test serum for tuberculosis has officials at the Salt Lake County jail hoarding their supplies.

The jail says it will run out of the test serum Tubersol if it continues a policy of screening all incoming prisoners.

Instead, jail officials announced a new policy Wednesday of not repeating a test on any offender who had the test within a year.

Jail officials say they have less than an eight-week supply of the skin test serum.
