Vt. town getting health care office

CANAAN, Vt. (AP) — The Vermont town of Canaan is getting a new health care satellite office.

Indian Stream Health Care based in Colebrook, N.H., will partner with Northeast Kingdom Community Action and lease space in the organization’s facility. Indian Stream has received a federal grant of nearly $457,000 for the office.

The Caledonian Record reports (http://bit.ly/1850LwT) Indian Stream hopes to make health care services more readily available to Essex County residents who now travel a distance to access health care. The nearest health care clinic is in Island Pond and is operated by Northern Counties Health Care in St. Johnsbury.

Patrick Flood, CEO of Northern Counties Health Care, said Essex County has long been regarded as most in need of accessible health care. He said Canaan is a difficult drive from Island Pond.
