HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) — A Henderson high school plans to test some students and staff for tuberculosis after a person there was diagnosed with the contagious illness.
Coronado High School officials sent a letter to parents Tuesday notifying them of the case, adding that the sick individual hasn’t been on campus recently.
It’s unclear whether the person was a student or a staff member.
The letter says health district officials are identifying people who had close contact with the person and plan to test them next week.
Principal Mike Piccininni says no other students or staff have shown symptoms of the illness.
Southern Nevada Health District spokeswoman Jennifer Sizemore tells the Las Vegas Review-Journal that her agency receives 70-80 reports of TB each year, including cases at schools that aren’t reported by the media.
