BSO holds shred-a-thon, operation medicine cabinet

NORTH LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Broward County residents can turn in their unused and expired prescription medication during an event held by local authorities.

The Broward Sheriff’s Office will hold the Operation Medicine Cabinet prescription drug “take back” event on Saturday in North Lauderdale. Participants will receive a $5 gift card while supplies last.

The sheriff’s office is also holding a Shred-A-Thon, where residents can dispose of their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other paperwork that has sensitive information. The service is free of charge, but there’s a limit of five boxes per person.

Authorities say the shredding events began in the county in 2008.
