Fallen former prominent Houston hand surgeon dies

HOUSTON (AP) — A former Houston hand surgeon whose loving family TV commercials became overshadowed and undermined by personal and legal problems has died in a Florida hospital.

Lawyer Dick DeGuerin represented Michael Brown in a Houston domestic violence case. He says the embattled Brown Hand Center founder was a brilliant man who loved his children.

Brown was found unconscious at his Miami Beach, Fla., home last month and had been on life support since.

Drug abuse cost Brown his medical license. He was convicted of assaulting a pregnant former wife, acquitted of assaulting his fourth wife and he pleaded guilty earlier this year to an altercation with a flight attendant.

He no longer was affiliated with the hand-center chain, which has clinics in Phoenix, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Las Vegas.
