Castleton State joins Vt push for top blood drive

CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) — Vermont’s Castleton State College is signing on to a push to set the one-day blood drive record.

On Monday, Castleton State announced it would substantially increase its support for the 2013 Gift-of-Life Marathon Blood Drive, joining Green Mountain Power and Rutland radio station WJJR as a presenting sponsor.

GMP Vice President Steve Costello says Castleton State will work on donor and volunteer recruitment and logistical work for the drive, scheduled for Dec. 17 in the Rutland area.

Castleton State President David Wolk says the news that Gift of Life organizers would seek to set a national record inspired members of the college community to get involved.

Organizers are hoping to break the one-day collection record of 1,968 pints, currently held by Manchester, N.H.
