Orange County executive has liver transplant

GOSHEN, N.Y. (AP) — Orange County Executive Edward Diana is recovering after a liver transplant.

Hudson Valley media report that Diana received the lifesaving transplant Saturday at a New York City hospital, about a year after he announced that he was suffering from nonalcoholic fatty liver disease. He had been on a waiting list for a donor liver.

Deputy County Executive Steven Gross said Sunday he would take over responsibilities of the county executive during Diana’s recovery.

The 65-year-old county executive is expected to recuperate at home for up to two months after his release from the hospital.

Diana’s term runs out at the end of the year.
