University officials work to get rid of bed bugs

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A University of Utah library remains partially closed as officials attempt to get rid of bed bugs.

The Deseret News (http://bit.ly/1aaDfdX) reports the first floor of the library was reopened Monday. University spokeswoman Valoree Dowell says they hope to reopen the whole library Tuesday.

The bugs were first spotted a week ago in upholstered chairs and couches on third floor. On Saturday, officials closed the entire library and put the chairs and couches in a heat chamber at 140 degrees to kill the bugs and eggs. They also put a treatment on the carpets.

Dowell says there are no reports of bed bugs in other parts of campus.

She says the bed bugs are more of a nuisance than a health risk.
