Raccoon in Henrico tests positive for rabies

HENRICO, Va. (AP) — A raccoon found in Henrico County has tested positive for rabies.

Henrico County Police Lt. Linda N. Toney said Monday that a dog exposed to the raccoon will be quarantined for 45 days.

The raccoon was located last week after Henrico County Animal Protection responded to a call and found a scratch on the dog.

Toney says no other animal or human exposures have been reported.

Henrico Police Animal Protection advises pet owners to keep rabies vaccinations current.
