SAN FRANCISCO — San Francisco is getting into the debate over regulating sugary drinks. A city supervisor is set to introduce a ballot measure that would tax sodas sold in the city.

Apple Inc. reports quarterly results after the market close.

MILITARY-FAT TEST — Fitness experts and doctors are calling for the military’s fitness standards to be revamped, including the weight tables the Pentagon uses. They say the tables are outdated and do not reflect that Americans are bigger, though not necessarily less healthy.

MICHAEL JACKSON-DOCTOR — The doctor convicted of killing Michael Jackson was released from jail Monday after serving nearly two years of a four-year sentence.

LA BREA TAR PITS — A Los Angeles museum celebrates 100 years of digging in the La Brea Tar Pits, which has recovered some 5.5 million bones representing more than 600 species of animals and plants, the richest cache of Ice Age fossils.

TROUT STOCKING POSTPONED — The annual stocking of trout in a Southern California lake has been postponed because of concerns to protect a fellow fish that is endangered.

DEPUTIES SHOOT 13-YEAR-OLD — More than 1,000 people turned out for a service to remember a 13-year-old boy who was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in Northern California.

MISSING HIKERS — A hiker missing for five days has been found near Lake Arrowhead after he started a fire to keep warm.
