BSO holds shred-a-thon, prescription take back

DANIA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — The Broward Sheriff’s Office is hosting an event where residents can safely dispose of their personal documents while also turning in unused or expired prescription drugs.

The Shred-A-Thon and Operation Medicine Cabinet prescription drug take back event will be held on Saturday in Dania Beach. It’s free of charge.

The prescription drug take back program allows participants to turn in unused or expired prescription medication to receive a $5 gift card. The Shred-A-Thon lets residents dispose of their personal documents, check stubs, credit card offers, receipts and any other paperwork that contains sensitive information. The service is free of charge. There’s a limit of five boxes per person.

A sheriff’s office statement says the Shred-A-Thon events began in 2008.
