U. library floor shut after bed bug sighting

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The University of Utah has temporarily closed the third floor of the library after a visitor spotted bed bugs in some upholstered chairs.

School spokeswoman Valoree Dowell says the floor was shut down Thursday and remained closed on Friday while crews looked into the extent of the problem.

It wasn’t clear when the school would reopen the floor, which includes study areas and a Middle Eastern collection.

Dowell says the situation appears to be confined to two small areas.

The Salt Lake Tribune reported the school planned to have a bug-sniffing beagle tour the building to look for any other infestations before determining whether to use pesticide or heat treatments.

Dowell says students can still request a book from the shut-down section.
