Indiana Gov. Pence gets his annual flu shot

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indiana Gov. Mike Pence has rolled up his sleeve for his annual flu shot.

Pence didn’t wince Thursday when he received his flu shot, telling reporters who watched him get the injection that it was “virtually painless.”

He said “it’s a very serious matter” for Hoosiers and state employees to get annual flu shots. The State Department of Health says Indiana had 72 flu-related deaths last flu season.

The Journal Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/H6drZZ ) that after receiving his flu shot, Pence restaged that shot for an Indianapolis TV station that showed up late for the event. Pence said he wanted to drive home the importance of getting the flu vaccine.

A pharmacist who gave Pence a second “shot” didn’t remove the lid covering the hypodermic’s needle or press the plunger.
