Oct. 23 – 24. CDC ADVISORY COMMITTEE ON IMMUNIZATION MEETING — The agenda will include three votes: considerations for use of meningococcal conjugate vaccine MenACWY-CRM in infants and young toddlers at increased risk for meningococcal disease; the 2014 Child/Adolescent Immunization Schedule; and the 2014 Adult Immunization Schedule. Both the child/adolescent and adult immunization schedules are updated annually. The 2014 adult immunization schedule incorporates changes approved by the ACIP during the 2013 calendar year.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SYMPOSIUM — DeKalb County Solicitor-General Sherry Boston is now collecting used cell phones to help victims of domestic violence in conjunction with our upcoming resource fair and symposium on Thursday, October 24th. Two survivors will be available for one-on-one interviews, in addition to Solicitor-General Sherry Boston. Experts and additional organizations dedicated to helping victims will also be available.

Oct. 29 – 30. 6:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. GEORGIA POWER TOWN HALLS — GeorgiaWatch is hosting town hall meetings throughout the state ahead of a Georgia Power proposal aimed at raising power bills. The Georgia Public Service Commission will vote on the matter Dec. 17. If approved, Georgia Power’s $478 million rate hike request would add nearly $8 a month to the average residential bill.
