Review of contaminated water system continues

WEST WARWICK, R.I. (AP) — Officials at the Kent County Water Authority are continuing to investigate how E. coli got into its drinking water system, a contamination which prompted a boil-water advisory affecting thousands of people.

WPRI-TV (http://bit.ly/17RhlM8 ) reports that the authority’s board discussed last month’s contamination at a meeting Thursday.

The boil order affected about 25,000 residential and business customers after E. coli bacteria were found in a water authority storage tank during routine testing. No illnesses from the contamination were reported and recent tests have shown no evidence of contamination.

Manager Tim Brown says findings from the investigation are “somewhat inconclusive.”

Brown says the contamination appears to have occurred when water in the tank became stagnant due to warm temperatures and a decrease in consumption.
